Wireless Network Engineer

We have an immediate (hybrid) Wireless Network Engineer position available in Columbia, SC. If you join our team in this role, you will lead the research, development, implementation, and support of advanced wireless technologies used across a nationwide corporate network. This role focuses on optimizing wireless and LAN performance while ensuring seamless integration with WAN and security infrastructures.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Design, test, install, configure, implement, and troubleshoot wireless and LAN hardware and software, ensuring optimal network performance and security.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and third-party vendors to integrate wireless technologies with existing WAN and security infrastructure.
  • Ensure secure wireless performance through user/device authentication, encryption, and intrusion detection (e.g., 802.1x RADIUS using EAP-TLS).
  • Provide WLAN design recommendations following industry best practices.
  • Manage configuration, deployment, and support for wireless controllers, Aruba Mobility Conductor (MCR), SSID setup, guest access portals, and access point provisioning.
  • Install, configure, monitor, and troubleshoot networking hardware such as Cisco switches (3850, 9300) and Aruba wireless controllers.
  • Provide Tier 3 support for wireless connectivity issues involving handheld devices, LAN/WAN access, and enterprise mobility.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, including system designs, implementation guides, and Visio diagrams.
  • Uphold the security and integrity of wireless systems and software.
  • Conduct wireless site surveys using AirMagnet or equivalent tools.
  • Monitor wireless networks using tools like Aruba AirWave and recommend enhancements as needed.
  • Configure and test advanced network protocols and services including QoS (voice/video), VLANs, ACLs, GRE tunnels, and VRRP.
  • Support DNS and DHCP services in Windows Server 201x environments.
  • Implement and maintain guest registration portals (preferably with Aruba ClearPass).
  • Recommend and apply configuration changes, firmware updates, and security patches.
Required Education, Knowledge, and Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in enterprise wireless networking environments.
  • In-depth understanding of wireless standards (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax) and network security protocols.
  • Proficiency in Windows Server and Linux environments.
  • Strong documentation skills with tools such as Microsoft Visio.
  • Understanding of DNS, DHCP, IP addressing/subnetting, VLSM, and SSL certificates.
  • Must reside within commuting distance of Columbia, SC with the ability to work onsite approximately four times per month.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:
  • Aruba ClearPass and Aruba AirWave experience.
  • Aruba Certified Mobility Associate (ACMA) or higher.
  • Cisco certifications such as CCNA Wireless, CCNA R&S, or CCNA Security.
  • Certified Wireless Security Professional (CWSP).
  • Familiarity with government security standards and compliance protocols.
Clearance:
Must be a U.S. Citizen and capable of obtaining/maintaining a Top-Secret clearance.
