$95,000-$130,000
The posted salary range represents the anticipated compensation for this position. Data Engineer III

We're looking for a talented Data Engineer III to join our team supporting a complex Federal Government customer in Northern Virginia (Alexandria/Falls Church area). This individual will support the development, integration, and operation of enterprise data environments. You will work across databases, data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and data integration solutions to ensure data is reliable, accessible, and available to support business and operational needs.

- Onsite – Northern Virginia (Alexandria/Falls Church area)
Clearance:
Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain Government security clearance.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities:
- Independently develop, maintain, and manage enterprise data infrastructure, databases, and data processing environments.
- Design, develop, and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, data models, and database objects to support operational and analytical requirements.
- Develop, maintain, and optimize ETL/ELT processes and data pipelines supporting the movement and transformation of data across enterprise systems.
- Design and implement data integration solutions that enable reliable data exchange between databases, applications, and other enterprise systems.
- Monitor data pipelines, database environments, and scheduled processing activities to identify performance issues, failures, and potential data quality concerns.
- Independently troubleshoot and resolve complex issues involving databases, ETL processes, data pipelines, integrations, and data processing workflows.
- Perform root-cause analysis of recurring data and infrastructure issues and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and performance.
- Conduct data validation and quality checks to ensure data is accurate, complete, consistent, and available to downstream systems and users.
- Analyze database and pipeline performance and implement optimization strategies to improve processing efficiency and system reliability.
- Support the design and implementation of data migration, transformation, and integration activities across multiple systems and data sources.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation for data architectures, data flows, integration processes, database configurations, and operational procedures.
- Collaborate with data analysts, developers, database administrators, architects, and other technical stakeholders to translate business and technical requirements into effective data solutions.
- Participate in the design, testing, implementation, and maintenance of enhancements to enterprise data environments.
- Support release, change management, configuration management, and operational processes associated with data infrastructure and integration solutions.
- Identify opportunities to improve data processes, automation, system performance, and operational efficiency.
- Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to less-experienced team members.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of standards, procedures, and best practices for enterprise data engineering and integration.
- Ensure data engineering activities are performed in accordance with applicable security, privacy, data governance, and organizational requirements.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
- 4+ years of professional experience in data engineering, database engineering, data integration, ETL/ELT, or a related discipline.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and experience working with relational databases.
- Experience developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting ETL/ELT processes and data pipelines.
- Experience integrating data across multiple databases, applications, systems, or other enterprise data sources.
- Experience with data transformation, validation, and quality processes.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex data, database, integration, and pipeline issues and perform root-cause analysis.
- Experience monitoring data processing activities and identifying performance, reliability, or data quality issues.
- Ability to work with technical and business stakeholders to understand requirements and develop effective data solutions.
- Experience documenting technical processes, data flows, configurations, and operational procedures.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, and collaborate effectively within a technical team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or other enterprise relational database platforms.
- Experience with enterprise ETL/data integration tools such as SSIS, Informatica, Talend, Azure Data Factory, or similar technologies.
- Experience developing and integrating REST APIs or other web services.
- Experience with Python, PowerShell, or other scripting languages for data processing and automation.
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or other cloud data platforms.
- Experience with data warehousing, dimensional modeling, and enterprise data architecture.
- Experience with data migration and large-scale data transformation projects.
- Experience implementing data quality, metadata, or data governance practices.
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or other business intelligence platforms.
- Experience with source control and CI/CD practices for data engineering workflows.
- Experience supporting complex enterprise or highly regulated environments.
- Experience supporting U.S. government or federal contracting programs.
- Active or previously held U.S. government security clearance.
- Relevant technical certifications in cloud, database, data engineering, or information technology.
